4-4-16: The Square Root Day

We quite like squares

Our Square Root Day Celebration

2IIM offers novel “Earn your discount” scheme

Greetings all,

I will start this email with an old joke. My friends tell me I procrastinate a lot. I do not know what that long word means. I will look it up tomorrow.

CAT Preparation, like calling that old friend, or clearing up a cupboard is one of those things that gets pushed to the tomorrows. Anyone ambitious enough to think about the IIMs needs to break out of this. One of the better ways of motivating oneself is to pick up simple cues from the environment to kick-start projects.

One such fabulous external cue is the fact that today is April 1st, universally acknowledged as a tribute to people’s folly. Ergo, an ideal day to start the process of deluding oneself that MBA is a big breakthrough in life. You need two things while preparing for CAT. Decent levels of motivation and an ability to laugh at oneself. We will be damned if we provided only one of these two. :D

Luckily enough for us, beyond April 1st, there is one more fabulous day around the corner that can be another wonderful time to begin prep. April 4th of 2016 is 4 – 4 – 16, which holds the moniker of being the Square Day. For someone keen to start preparation, is there a better time? The leap day comes by once every 4 years. The next square day is 9 years away.

So, keeping in mind the speciality of April 1st and April 4th, 2IIM offers discounts on its Courses. Again, keeping the context in mind, the discount offered would be 16% for both our products.

Revised Prices

The Comprehensive Course is available @ Rs.12,500 Rs.10,499.

The Green Course is available @ Rs.10,000 Rs.8,399.

Earn bigger discounts

There would be no joy in offering a mere plain-vanilla discount with no additional add-ons for such special days. So, here go two special questions that can help you gain an additional discount.

1. There is only one 4-digit number of the form ‘aabb’, where a and b are digits, that is a perfect square. Find that number.
2. There are a few numbers of the form ‘abcabd’ where a, b, c, d are digits and d = c + 1. Give 2 of these.

If you give correct answers to both of these on or before April 3rd, you will get a discount of 25% on both products (another square). The best three explanations will receive discounts of 36%.

The Comprehensive Course @ 25% off would be Rs. 9374.
The Green Course @ 25% off would be Rs. 7499.

At the even juicier 36% off, the prices would be even lower. Do your own math and send us an email, we will send you the payment link. If you can solve the above two questions, you can compute discounts!

Mathematicians love symmetry, and squares are fabulously symmetric. The only thing odd about them is the number of factors they have, which is also kind of cool because that is unique about them as only perfect squares have odd number of factors.

Not just math guys, even the purveyors of the English language are fascinated by the word ‘square’. Our dear verbal faculty, Swami tells me to stop being square and offer additional discount to experts of the English language as well. India might not be able to win test matches on wickets that don’t turn square, but we at 2IIM wish to be more versatile than that. At the least, we turn up for the fight and square up to the challenge. So, here goes – if any of you can come up with two other wonderful usages of the word square, we will jack up your discount to 49%.

Again, compute your own discounts!

If you want additional motivation, you should probably start after having a square meal.

Finally, although 49% is a very high discount percentage – if you crack the two math puzzles (with thorough explanations) and come up with two additional usages for the word Square, we will deem you to have earned this fair and square.

Best wishes for CAT Preparation.
Cheers,
Rajesh
